I am so excited to show you my latest pattern! It is the Cable Zipper Pullover from April's issue of Yarnwise Magazine:
One of my favorite knitterly things to do in my designs is to have a removable cowl so you can get rid of the bulk if necessary. Such is the case with this sweater.
This design is one I have had in my head for a while and looked forward to seeing what it looked like in the real world. Both the cable and ribbing have flattering vertical lines and an unexpected zipper in the center. If you need a bit more hip room, this sweater is the answer and yet the fabric still covers your tummy when the zipper is unzipped.
The sweater is knit in the round from the bottom up, with the only seams necessary the ones that attach the zipper to the fabric. It truly is a fast knit with 19 stitches and 24 rows in 4" of the ribbing pattern, stretched. For even faster knitting, I let the ribbing do the waist shaping, so it is a simply a tube with the cable so you don't have to keep track of both. There are six bust sizes, 31.25 (35.5, 39.75, 44, 48.25, 52.5) inches with the ribbing stretched. Block to your desired fit.
My go-to fav 3 needle bind off is worked for the shoulder seams. Sleeve stitches are picked up around the armhole. The sleeves are also worked in the round in the rib pattern, so you can stop at your little heart's desire and don't have to wonder if the arm measurement I have listed truly is your arm measurement. To make the sleeves even easier, omit the shaping and simply knit the ribbing pattern for a straight sleeve. I think that would be particulary cute for a 3/4 length sleeve, my preferred sleeve length.

I am always a bit nervous shipping any project and particular so when the country is England. I can't wait to visit one day, and to think my knits go there before me is thrilling enough until I can go with them.
If you want a quick gift, just knit up a cowl super fast with 2 hanks. It is worked seamlessly in the round as well. The yarn is one of my favorites, Spud & Chloe's Sweater, a wonderful blend of 55% superwash wool and 45% organic cotton. It has a lovely hand, wonderful drape and, even better, is machine washable. There are many, many happy spring colors to choose from.
I am ready to turn my back on winter, aren't you? We are starting to see the first signs of spring in Billings. I can't wait to knit outside -- it is still a little breezy but we are close. My usual walk was able to be outside today instead of walking the track at the Y and it was lovely to see the neighborhood.
