Halloween week is always a flurry of activity in our house. Paul's birthday is the 30th and he turned 14 this year. I can't believe that. So let me sit down. Wait, no, let us both show you his cake:
You know how heavy those Costco cakes are? I was a wee bit nervous holding it up. Paul is wearing one of his gifts -- a most awesome Dr. Who sweatshirt that didn't leave his body for 2 days.
We celebrated at Straw Hat Pizza with some dear friends, Ryan and Patti:
The other end of the table had equally cool friends:
(I have to pause and interject that all 4 of those beautiful people are from one family -- disgusting, no?)
So I wonderful time was had by all celebrating my eldest.
Two days later was Halloween:
Paul is an Angry Bird, Kate is a Boogie Banana (complete with song and dance) and Wade is a Steampunk Scientist.
Believe it or not, there was some knitting involved. Wade needed hand warmers for his costume. And they must be grey. Hence:
The yarn is the now defunct Debbie Stoller Bamboo Ewe at 5 stitches per inch. He wanted them 5" long so I cast on 25 stitches and worked 4 rows stockinette, 4 rows reverse stockinette. The seam is merely an inch from the top and 2 inches on the bottom with 2 inches left open for the thumb.
Here we are having a great time at church with some other friends that live down the street:
With some very serious Avengers:
And Thing One and Thing Two found Kate. A very good trio don't you think? I do believe they need a banana side kick.
A couple of Wade's buddies came over later to trick-or-treat:
Totally non-related, remember my leaf blanket? With the leftover yarn, I whipped out a hat:
It is my Classic Ribbed Hat from my book but I cast on only 40 stitches because of the larger gauge, 3 stitches per inch with Remix doubled. I followed the rest of the pattern for the smallest size.
There are still spots available at Purl Yarn Boutique for this Saturday's class from 10 - noon that I will be teaching, the Three Piece Gift Set:
I worked the samples at Purl in Berroco's Vintage Colors in Smokestack:
Classes are only $15 when you buy your supplies from Purl. I will be discussing how to knit all three pieces: the slouch hat, scarf and mittens. Subjects in the class include knitting in the round with both circular (for the hat) and double pointed needles (for the hat and mittens) as well as knitting the scarf. This is a perfect set to knit for gift giving. Please call 406-652-4876 for more info.
Hope you had an appropriate spooky and knitty Halloween. Knit on!
