One of my sweet friends is having her first baby, so knitting is in order. I wanted to make a small blanket perfect for a car seat. It seemed to me, when I had my babies, almost all of the blankets were too big for the car seat. Hence, the super snappy Leaf Blanket by Susan B. Anderson. Here is the photo on the cover of the pattern, copyright Blue Sky Alpacas:
Can you stand that little bambino? I had to show you him/her cuteness.
When I saw the yellow flecks of Berroco's Remix, it just screamed fall leaves, don't you think?
And here it is in all of it's glory:
Truly, the cutest, fastest knit in the world. The stem tucks into the loop in the middle right when you want to wrap the baby as in the photo.
Two strands of Remix yielded 2.85 stitches per inch instead of 2.31 stitches, so I added three more increase rows to Section two so the blanket stayed 26" wide. Then I just decreased those extra stitches in Section 4 to 35 stitches and finished the blanket as written.
I also knit a Bubbles Bath Mitt, one of my super quick designs with a thick cotton yarn, Fantasy Naturale from Plymouth Yarn. One hank will make two bath mitts.
Starting at one cuff, it is knit in one long strip. It is then folded in half and single crochet seams it all the way around. This one also works up quickly and I've heard from many happy mamas how much their kiddos like them.
On an entirely different note, this Saturday, October 20th at Purl Yarn Boutique (406-652-4876), is the Keyhole Scarf and Cozy Mittens:
The scarf is knit flat and is a perfect start to your gift giving:
We will also be chatting about mittens and working in the round with double pointed needles. They are much easier to work with then they look and are another gift that are so appreciated with very little knitting time required. Both projects are 3 stitches per inch.
I used two strands of Remix for the sample at Purl (pix coming soon!) which only takes one ball for the scarf when two strands are held as one.
October 27 begins a three session class for the Multi-Cabled Bag at Wild Purls (406-245-2224), also from 10-noon:
I found the fabric for the lining at Joann's:
The bag requires approximately 550 yards of worsted weight yarn, handles, and pre-quilted fabric and plastic canvas for the lining if desired. WIth 5 stitches per inch this is the perfect project to learn cabling without a cable needle since each straightforward cable is only 4 stitches.
For the Wild Purls sample, I worked it in Cascade Yarn's 220 Superwash:
I found the prequilted fabric for the lining at Hancock Fabrics:
I have also found out my book is available at Michael's as well as an e-book through Leisure Arts for $9.99 here.
Knit on!!
