I usually have a garter stitch or stockinette stitch project always in the works so that if my brain can handle nothing of any magnitude, my fingers can still process life with a no-brainer project. Hence, a bonus present for my brother, his wife, and their bambino coming very soon:
Wait, you say, is that a gigantic washcloth? DING! DING! DING! You win! Yes, one mammoth washcloth knit on the bias. I always feel like I am a magician when I knit diagonally, like I am truly defying the laws of nature and getting away with it. Rebel I am, I know.
Obligatory close up:
My mom knit half and I finished the second half. True family experience!
I knit it in Berroco's Cotton Twist, which has been discontinued. It is a washable 70% mererized cotton, 30% rayon blend and, dare I say, not my favorite. I do feel a bit uncomfortable claiming such things since I am a true Berroco groupie, but it does split funny and is a bit stiff. So no love lost here that it has been discontinued.
Having expressed my discontent, however, I do admit I love the finished fabric and the baby colors are great together as well as the finished fabric has lovely drape. As with all projects, including the yarns I love immensely, I was thrilled to finish it (Am I goal oriented? Nah...) and mail it to its happy new home in sunny Arizona. And thrilled to have it stop looking at me every time I fished through my stash.
On to a new book with absolutely no relation or proper transition, here is Lisa Shroyer's new book from Interweave, Knitting Plus (the link is to the page at BN.com where they have it over 40% off as I write this!!):
This is a terrific resource for designing in general as well as plus sizes. Besides all the design discussion, there are 3 patterns in each sweater section: the Drop Shoulder Sweater, Set-In Sweater, the Raglan Sweater, the Seamless Yoke and the Dolman Sweater. Here are my favorites:
Okay, it is purple. I know. I am always biased toward anything of the purple variety. But I truly love the sweater on its own merit. But I would still knit it in the EXACT SAME COLOR.
My other fav:
I can't wait to learn how to design yoke sweaters. They are always so graceful to me and the yoke can be an entirely different design planet (like the Berroco one I loved in their new spring booklet) or blend effortlessly with the rest of the sweater, like this one.
Knit on.
