We just got back from a week in Arizona. The kids had last Thursday and Friday and yesterday off, so we took the whole week off instead. Good idea, no?
The main reason we went to Arizona was to celebrate Baby #2 in my family. My brother and his wife are expecting in about a month their first:
Hooray! My mom and my sister-in-law's mom hosted a shower at my mom's house. It was so completely lovely. Of course, I cut the sweater finishing to the absolute wire (if you count knitting the collar on the couch before starting to open presents close. Or, say, if your sister-in-law asks as you are binding of the last three stitches 'Hey, Kim, what are you knitting,' and you have to say like you planned the whole thing all along, 'Something for you in three stitches...' and you bind off the last three stitches, stuff it in the bag and have Kate deliver the bag to the area of the living room with the rest of the gifts to save just a bit of face).
Here is a cute little seamed sleeve:
And here is the sweater sans ribbing:
Because I knit the whole body in seed stitch (cough, cough), I decided both of the front bands and collar should be in k1, p1 ribbing (like the top of the fronts and back) instead of the seed stitch that was called for in the pattern.
Here is the official finished sweater on my mom's couch in her living room:
It is hard to see, but the cute little buttons are a mother of pearl type button with lots colors including the pretty dark green of the sweater. I heart them immensely.
To review, this is Berroco's Moppet. I worked it in the same yarn the pattern calls for: Berroco's Vintage, a most squishy washable wool that is perfect for baby and children's knits. The sweater is in the 12-18 month size and will be a perfect jacket for Arizona. I can't wait for an action shot of my niece when she is old enough!
Here is another present I bought for the baby. Wait, no, it is really for me disguised as a present for the baby:
Obligatory close up:
Ha! I want you to know I laughted out loud in Target when I read this, so that meant it had to go in the cart.
Here is my mamacita with the cutest little sweater she knit:
Another obligatory close up:
Everything was so pretty at the shower. For one, we all got a corsage, which I thought a most enchanting gesture:
And precious handmade booties with those delicious melt-in-your-mouth mints:
Other happening things in Arizona this trip was panning for gold at a museum:
Also, go cart racing (not at the same place):
And bumper boats to boot (this time, yes, at the same place):
I like Wade's face on that one, don't you? Watch out, Paul!
It wasn't all sunshine in Arizona, however. The last couple days rained as if it has never rained before. This picture was taken at a new terminal of a now not-so-little airport by my mom's house. Obligatory cacti picture:
Hope you had a lovely week!
