Moppet (free pattern link!) is on the horizon for Baby #2 in my family:
Is that a charming coat or what? Both fronts are knit at the same time with the back.
But, let's say you are watching too many episodes of the last season of 24 and instead of only knitting the bottom border for, say, 2" or so, you kept going like this:
So, in a quick editorial move, the whole body will be in seed stitch yet the top portion will stay in the ribbing as written:
The white stitch markers indicate the center bottom of the armhole for quick reference later when seaming the sleeves. I am working it in the fabulous washable wool from Berroco named Vintage in the Douglas Fir colorway. This worsted weight yarn is a supremely soft blend of 50% acrylic, 40% wool and 10% nylon. Actually, they just introduced a DK weight this spring and there is also a chunky version. The Douglas Fir colorway has lots of other little flecks of color in it and I just love it.
The jacket is looking a little short ot me right now because the seed stitch sucked up a bit on it's own, like it always does and I conveniently forgot this point. I do think I want it longer than the pattern was written anyway. My current plan, that may change at any moment, is to pick up stitches around the entire bottom and work in the k1, p1 ribbing for another couple of inches. I think that will be the perfect topper.
Thank goodness I finished the season of 24 or this jacket may have some very wonky sleeves.
