There are never enough or proper words to thank all of those who serve our country. At least let me say thank you for all you and your families do for our freedom and all that we get to enjoy in our wonderful country. Truly, thank you.
On a much, much, much more minor note, I finished the main knitting for my friend's birthday who was last week (but thankfully went of town, buying me more time):
Close up of the front, looking suspiciously like the 4 other vests I have knit:
Random yarn that looks scary at the shoulders is really very organized, I promise.I leave it on the bobbin to soak but then gently unwind that yarn when I block the rest of the sweater so that it can dry properly and be ready for the 3 needle bind off at the shoulders.
What keeps coming me back to this pattern is the back:
I truly never get tired of looking at this pattern, which is why you must look at it so very often, and, frankly, I know you want to say to me, "MOVE ON!"
So, I have:
Full Circle by Sarah Wilson is a design I loved long right away, from Yarn Forward Magazine, August 2009. I bought it before I even "knew" Sarah in the cyber-realm and the cables and shape of the top intrigued me. It was one of those designs I was going to knit when I was at least content with the status of the arm situation, but had a happy surprise when Sarah told me she was working on a version with sleeves. I told her how very perfect a sleeved version would be for Montana and am test knitting that version for her since she helped me wade through some design waters. Thanks, Sarah, for all of your help.
In a true miracle of knitting, I even have the actual yarn the project calls for: Soya Cotton DK from Sublime Yarns. I've been wanting to knit with this yarn f.o.r.e.v.e.r. It is a heavenly combo of 50% soya and 50% cotton and has plenty of shape but still soft, soft, soft. Color 081, a subdued teal by my eye.
And this, Jordan, by Wendy Bernard (available for purchase via that link at her website). It has an impressive 8 sizes from 32.5" to 51".
In between design-ery duties, I am going to be working on this. How much I love this tunic top, I cannot say. I have had this Berry Red Euroflax from Louet wallowing in my stash for some time. Before working on this post, I did not know this yarn is available in four weights, all washable and dryable. Just an FYI.
So, when I saw Wendy's new pattern, I knew that is what I must do. A happy berry gift to myself this summer. I love that it is a bit longer and not too fitted (ahem) and says summer like nothing I have seen lately. Best of all, the whole garment will really only take these 3 hanks. Wearing this with some cruise wear in the form of linen pants (like Wendy mentions) sounds very cosmo, don't you think? I"ll be so cool, I won't be able to be around myself. Frankly, you wouldn't recognize me. I'll be the super-hip mom with 3 kids you can see from 9 miles away, the pink is so bright. I can always tell when I get spring fever. These kinds of colors fly out of my stash bins virtually on their own. Or, I'll wear Full Circle with those snazzy linen pants as well if I am feeling a little less adventurous but still outside my usual league.
Whatever is clicking on your needles this summer, enjoy those summer fibers. Knit on.
